What Is an Immigration Certificate?
An Immigration Certificate (certificado migratorio) is a document from the Dirección Nacional de Migración that certifies your residency category and status.
When Do You Need an Immigration Certificate?
You might need an Immigration Certificate in these situations:
- To get a cédula for the first time
- To renew a cédula
Immigration Certificate When Applying for a Cédula for the First Time
Typically, when your residency status (temporary, in process, or permanent) is granted, the immigration office issues an electronic certificado migratorio in the system that DNIC can verify during your cédula appointment.
You might need to obtain an immigration certificate (Certificado Migratorio) yourself and bring it to your cédula appointment if your appointment is more than 30 days after your immigration status was granted/updated.
