Beaches and Rambla
One of the town’s iconic features is the rambla, a 5km scenic coastal promenade and main road running along the water.
There are several public (and free) beaches in the area. Parking is also free and a bit chaotic.
During high season there are many beach activities such as volleyball, wave runners, kayaking, and rentals of bicycles and tandem bikes by the half hour.

Surf School
During the high season there is a surf school (adults and children) in Punta Colorada. Follow Escuela de Surf Piriápolis online (Instagram or Facebook) for hours and updates.
Municipal Swimming Pool
The Piscina Municipal de Piriápolis is located near the bus terminal. It is open for lap swimming at designated days and times. You will need to have a letter from your doctor stating that you are cleared to swim.
Hiking Trails
Cerro del Toro
The trail starts at the Fuente del Toro (Bull Fountain). Upon entering, note the hours of operation of the park.
It is a moderate difficulty hike that is a loop with three peaks that offer excellent views of the town and surrounding area. The trail is not well-marked and can be muddy or overgrown at times.
Cerro de Los Burros
The trail is located west of downtown in Playa Hermosa. The trailhead and trail are well-marked. This hike is shorter and easier than the others yet also offers wonderful surrounding views.
Pan de Azucar
This trail is a difficult, long scramble up. This 396m-tall peak features sweeping views of the area. Access the trailhead by entering the Reserva de Flora y Fauna del Pan de Azúcar.
Cerro de Las Animas
This trail leads to the second highest point of Uruguay, with an altitude of 501 meters (1,643.7 ft)
This hike requires entering through private property.
